Gateway to the world: Hamburg Airport
Hamburg Airport has been part of the network of HOCHTIEF AirPort (HTA) a subsidiary of HOCHTIEF Concessions since July 2000. Together, HOCHTIEF Concessions and HTAC have a 49 percent stake in the airport. The City of Hamburg holds 51 percent.
Hamburg Airport can look back on a history of almost 100 years, making it one of Germany's oldest centers of civil aviation. The outlook for the future is also very promising. With an extensive expansion program called HAM 21, the airport has prepared itself to meet the great demands of tomorrow. Over a period of seven years, the airport company has invested more than EUR 350 million in extension and modernization measures.
The new Terminal 1 has increased the airport's capacity from ten to around 15 million passengers a year, while the new parking rotunda provides an additional 2,200 parking spaces. Since the end of 2008, the new Airport Plaza forms an airside connection between Terminals 1 and 2 and accommodates the central security controls. It also houses generously dimensioned retail and catering premises. A new S-Bahn (municipal rail) line provides a link with the city's Central Station at ten-minute intervals.
